These maps are colored with respect to the twelve generalized geologic terranes used in this study.
The purpose of a metallogenitic map of Cox and Briggs is to show the distribution of mineral deposits in relation to geologic factors, particularly those factors that have had an important influence on the formation of the deposits.
Purpose:
Conversion of the generalized geologic map of Isla de Mona
to a digital geologic map was undertaken as part of a
study of the mineral resources of the Commonwealth of
Puerto Rico.
While the geologic map for the main island was developed
at a 1:100,000 scale, maps more detailed than 1:240,000
scale could not be found for Isla de Mona to be used in
this study.
Supplemental_Information:
The digital geologic map of Isla de Mona is being published as part of a larger study entitled 'Geology, Geochemistry, Geophysics, Mineral Occurrences and Mineral Resource Assessment for the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico'.
The digital geologic maps of Vieques and Culebra, from Cox and Briggs, are also included in this study.
The geologic map for the island of Puerto Rico was compiled by Richard D. Krushensky from 1:20,000 scale quadrangle maps.

Attribute_Accuracy:
Attribute_Accuracy_Report: The digital map of Isla de Mona was created by tracing in pencil the outline of the geology and coast line on mylar, and scanning the linework. The original map was published at a scale of 1:240,000 by Cox and Briggs as I-Map 721, Metallogenic Map of Puerto Rico.
Logical_Consistency_Report:
Polygon and chain-node topology present.
There are only two polygons present representing map units from Cox and Briggs Metallogenic Map of Puerto Rico. Units present include 'surficial deposits' and 'Undivided rocks of the northeastern volcanic-plutonic subprovince'.
Maps do not have formation names in the polygon attribute tables. The only attribute used is the 'prov' attribute used to color the map consistent with the geologic terrane maps used elsewhere on the cd-rom.
Completeness_Report:
Map units present include 'surficial deposits' and 'Undivided rocks of the northeastern volcanic-plutonic subprovince' as defined by Cox and Briggs in USGS I-MAP 721 Metallogenic Map of Puerto Rico.
Isla de Mona does not have map unit names in the polygon attribute tables. The only attribute used is the 'prov' attribute, which is used to color the map consistent with the geologic terrane maps used elsewhere on the cd-rom.
Positional_Accuracy:
Horizontal_Positional_Accuracy:
Horizontal_Positional_Accuracy_Report: The users of the digital geologic map of Isla de Mona should respect the intentions of the compilers of the original map and use it at a scale of 1:240,000 and not at a more detailed scale. At that scale, Isla de mona is approximately 1 3/4 inches wide.

Source_Contribution: Printed geologic map and coastline for Isla de Mona was traced, scanned, and vectorized from Cox and Briggs Map I-721.
Process_Step:
Process_Description: Isla de Mona geologic contacts and coastlines were traced onto a piece of mylar, which was scanned, and then vectorized. The vectorized map was registered and projected into a polyconic projection. The vectorized map has two map unit polygons, which were labeled and attributed with a province code.
